    WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

The Land Surname DNA Project is open to all males with the surname Land and variations. The male "Y" chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged (except for a mutation about once every 200 years). The test of your "Y" chromosome DNA will provide you with a genetic profile. This genetic profile will consist of a series of 12, 25 or 37 numbers depending upon the size of the test you choose. By comparing your genetic profile to others with the surname Land you will be able to determine if you are related.

Females born with the Land surname and those males with maternal Land lines will be able to accomplish this by enlisting the cooperation of their male Land relatives

    PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The Land Surname DNA Project has as its objectives:

  • To establish "Benchmarks" (modal signature) for our oldest ancestors against which others will be able to test relationships,
  • To identify others who are related,
  • To prove or disprove theories regarding your family history or your ancestry,
  • To solve brick walls you have run into in your research,
  • To provide a means for possibly determining where (location) you should research next, and
  • To validate your existing research.

    CURRENT TESTS

Testers so far include alleged or proven descendants of

  • Robert Land 1738 DE/PA/or ENG
  • Joseph Land 1724 VA
  • James Carruth Land 1821 NC
  • William Land 1830 TN
  • Jacob Land 1809 SC
  • William Land 1795 SC
  • Robert Land 1665 VA
  • Curtis Land
  • Francis Land I

Are you descended from early Land ancestry? Are you willing to be tested in order to provide valuable information to other Land descendants who believe, but cannot prove, they are related to your ancestor? We would like to test 2 descendants of each proven ancestor in order to establish "benchmarks" for others to compare against. Are you willing to help other Land researchers document their earliest Land ancestor?

Or....are you at the proverbial "dead-end" in your research and think you are related to "?" Land, but just not sure...then this might be the time to consider DNA testing.

    PROJECT DNA TESTS

Our Land project will begin with the 25-marker Y-DNA test offered by Family Tree DNA. This will be our standard. It will intially provide more in-depth information on relationships. It will also eliminate the necessity for the upgrade from the 12-marker test which many participants in other projects have elected to do.

However, if any of you wish to begin with the 12, 37, or 67-marker test for any reason you may do so.

Because we are a registered Surname project at Family Tree DNA we will receive special project pricing discounts.
